Having the right wheel is more important than you may think! Read some of our best tips & warnings to keep your small animals safe!

Hamsters, rats, gerbils, degus, hedgehogs, and chinchillas should have wheels in their habitats. Bunnies and guinea pigs should not.

Wheel size matters! Be sure the wheel you buy is big enough. When an animal runs, their body stretches. Their backs should not arch. Arched backs are painful for the animal and could lead to them not running at all. Exercise is extremely important!

Suitable wheels: Wheels that have a flag, continuous running surface. Slight rides for grip are okay. Flying saucer wheels can be another great option!

Unsuitable wheels: Metal, mesh, or barred wheels are not ideal, as they can impact running posture and be uncomfortable on their feet. Also, injury can occur if their foot slips through the bars.
