Rotational Feeding

There are major benefits to rotating your pet's food & the proteins in their diet.

Scared to switch your pet's food?
We hear it a lot! But there are major benefits to rotating your pet's food & the proteins in their diet.

BENEFITS:
  • Offering multiple proteins helps boost gut microbiome & strengthens the immune system.
  • Giving your pet one protein their entire life leaves them prone to intolerances, and one protein (no matter how good) cannot provide all of the nutrients needed for pets to truly thrive.
  • Various fats are important to maintain optimal physiological function. Using chicken as an example, is high in omega 6 fatty acid, also known as linoleic acid. This is known to be inflammatory to the body so feeding this protein everyday can potentially lead to health issues down the road.
  • Various types of protein offer a little spark to each meal and can avoid picky eating behaviors.
TIPS:
  •  It’s most common to rotate every 3 months. However, if you find your dog isn’t having sensitivity issues, you can rotate more frequently, for example: whenever you restock on food.
  • If you have a picky/sensitive eater, mix a little of the new food with the old food, gradually increasing the amount each day until they are switched over. It can take around 2 weeks for a dog to get used to new food.
  •  If you feed multiple times a day, you could feed one protein in the morning and another at night.
  • If your pet can only tolerate a single protein, try adding in toppers such as fruits, vegetables, bone broth, raw goat milk, or eggs.
